The Serif Readability Myth

Apparently there’s no scientific proof to back up the serif readability claim. This is stuff that’s been drilled in my head since high school, which was a long time ago.

This article is a short read, but it’s based on Ole Lund’s Ph.D. dissertation “Knowledge construction in typography: the case of legibility research and the legibility of sans serif typefaces” which you can read here in it’s 287-page glory.

Serifs. No serifs. It doesn’t matter. None of it matters anymore! My whole world is turned upside down now.
